Where to Eat in Louisville:

Proof on Main: Home to local foods and 120+ Kentucky bourbons, this renovated Museum Hotel has an art gallery vibe with rotating art exhibits for guests to view.

HammerHeads: A contemporary gastrolounge and smokehouse that has everything from sandwiches, rib, burgers, tacos to vegetarian options! It is said to be a one of a kind dining experience that will satisfy even the pickiest eaters.

Derby Weekend Weather Report

*subject to change

Thursday: High of 77 with scattered showers throughout the day

Friday: High of 67 with AM showers. The first Kentucky Oaks® race begins at 10:30 am, hopefully missing the wet weather.

Saturday: High of 68, partly cloudy in the morning with sunshine peaking through in the afternoon, just in time for the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby®

Weather Appropriate Attire

Based on the weather reported above, the best way to get through Derby weekend comfortably is to layer-up! Pack your raincoat just in case of unpredictable weather. For those chilly Louisville mornings, bring a cardigan or jacket that you can tie around your waist or slip into a bag once the sun comes out. I recommend not wearing anything white when there is a chance of rain, as this is likely to become see-through.

The gate locations of the famous Churchill Downs® track have changed due to the addition of the main entry plaza.

Derby Experiences guests who have purchased motor coach transportation are to enter through the Clubhouse Gate, which is formerly known as Gate 10. You will enter through the VIP Fast Access Pass Lane and make sure your lanyard is visible!

Semi private and private transportation guests are to enter through the new Paddock Gate, once again using the VIP Fast Access Pass Lane.

Guests who have purchased general admissions tickets to the infield are to use the Infield gate, formerly known as Gate 3.

Wagering at the Kentucky Derby®

Wagering on debit/credit cards is actually illegal so be sure to have cash with you if you're planning to place bets.  If you don’t want to carry around a lot of cash, you can open an account through Churchill Downs® official wagering platform www.twinspires.com.  There is currently a $100 sign up bonus for new accounts so you will already have money to gamble with and use straight from your phone.

Some of the Hospitality venues at Churchill Downs® have their own private wagering stations, but for those of us without the luxury of a hospitality suite, we have come up some steps to make your wagering experience as painless as possible. Click here»
